Le journal The Courant rapporte une controverse entre Ron Simmons (ex-lutteur de la WWE) et Linda McMahon, concernant le fameux Eugene.

Simmons, qui tout comme McMahon, tente sa chance comme sénateur pour les Républicains, considère que le personnage incarné par Nick Dinsmore ridiculisait les handicapés mentaux.

Simmons a fait circuler des vidéos (disponibles sur YouTube) de Eugene afin de démontrer que McMahon n'était pas sensible à cette réalité.

Ed Patru, un porte-parole de Linda McMahon, affirme au contraire que la WWE a dépeint Eugene comme un héros, qui a su se relever de ses défaites pour en sortir victorieux.
